Before starting this unit I had no idea how big of an impact I had on our beautiful earth. But thanks to it I am so much more self aware and realized how I as an individual can change the world. just as such a small part of a huge community that is our planet I had made an impact on other people and the world and that is called globalization. If Everyone lived like me, the world would be gone before next summer. If everyone lived like me we would need over a whole nother earth to accommodate for it, I need 2.4. Because of the field trips to the Durango Recycling Center, I see that just our small town in rural Colorado impacts our whole state and even into others like New Mexico and even our trash getting sent all the way to China! Moving on I need to learn how to have a better relationship with the world and the aspects within it. I am sad to see how some people treat our earth. Knowing it is our only one. After tracking multiple things like how often I drive or what kinda food I use I see just those little things have a big impact and things I purchase from overseas to my doorstep. I drive less than a lot of other people. Luckily, Lucky my car has great gas mileage at 45 miles per gallon. This makes it better for the ecosystem and lets off less carbon emissions than other vehicles on the market. A lot of the food I eat is not sustainable or locally grown; it comes pre packaged with a lot of plastic and non-biodegradable materials. Finally buying Things online in just one week My family of only three had over ten packages in just those seven days. These included batteries, parts for the door, clothes and stuffed animals. The funny thing is that all of these things could have easily been purchased in town. But just because of the convenience of it we ordered online so we didn't have to go to a store. This is not helping local companies, industries and small businesses.
For my global footprint project, I am going to make a wood block with my foot mold stepping out of it and within the footprint is going to be my impact on the world. Involving my trash, my carbon emissions and how I impact the environment and the world around me. Making the foot was such a fun process. We got to mold our feet with a partner to make a perfect mold of our own foot. Mine did not work out the first time around. So I took initiative and did it all again at my home with The help of my brother Shea. It turned out to be much better than the first time I did it. I am proud of the work I have made so far.
